Superior Durability and Longevity
Unlike other types of steel or metals, Corten steel develops a protective rust layer or patina that protects the metal and prevents further corrosion, meaning it will withstand harsh weather conditions and last significantly longer.
Minimal Maintenance
Once the protective patina layer has developed on your Corten steel product, it needs virtually no maintenance! Other types of steel may need treating or repainting, but Corten steel continues to look stunning without effort!
Enhanced Aesthetic Appeal
Corten steel’s rich, earthy patina creates a unique, natural look that evolves beautifully over time. Blending seamlessly with any garden or setting, this visually striking element can’t be matched by other steels.

How are your custom-branded Corten steel cube planters made?
At Weather It, we make all our Corten steel planters and gardening products at our on-site facility in the UK. We manufacture all our products by hand to showcase our expert craftsmanship and endeavour to accommodate your unique sizing requirements.
Our laser-cutting experts help to display your bespoke writings and logos on the cube planter for all to adorn. We will laser cut everything from logos, geometric shapes, delicate floral motifs to badges and slogans, the team at Weather It can bring your bespoke designs to life! Combined with your favourite plants, the bespoke Corten cube planter will be a majestic sight for all to see.
We guarantee both precision and consistency in our designs using advanced laser-cutting techniques. We then apply folds to the sheet of Corten steel using specialised computer-aided machinery, and then the manufacturing process is completed by our skilled fabricators who take great pride in their work.
Our Corten steel cube planters feature a double-folded return top lip, which sets them apart from other similar products on the market. In fact, this double fold offers a higher quality, premium finish, in addition to unbelievable strength and greater rigidity. It also makes our bespoke Corten steel cube planters safer to handle during planting.
We take care to fully seam-weld the corners and connecting sides of our cube planters, in addition to smoothing out the welds, thus resulting in amazing corner and edge details. The welds are so well done that they are practically invisible once we are finished.
Not only will you have your bespoke laser-cut design on your cube planter, but your planter is uniquely made by our dedicated fabricators, with no two planters being the same, adding to its charm.
What is Corten Steel?
Corten steel, also known as weathering steel or COR-TEN steel, is a corrosion-resistant, denoted by COR, material with a high tensile strength (TEN), and we use 2 mm thick, structural grade steel as standard to produce our planters.
When exposed to the elements, Corten steel develops a unique patina that protects the material from further oxidation. The oxidised patina creates a barrier that slows down the oxidisation process, extending the lifespan of the material. Over time (typically around 6-12 months), the patina develops warm, autumnal shades of orange, red and brown, which vary depending on the local climate and weather conditions in which the planter is situated, resulting in a one-of-a-kind planter for your garden.
We offer custom sizes of up to 6 mm in thickness, depending on the intended use – and to suit all kinds of individual needs, all of our planters are available in Rustic Patina Steel and Corten Steel.
Corten steel is a premium metal used widely in landscaping and construction. Corten steel has been used for several well-known structures, including:
The Angel of the North by Anthony Gormley
John Deer World Headquarters by Eero Saarinen, Kevin Roche
Leeds Broadcasting Tower by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios

How long will it take for my Corten steel cube planter pot to weather?
Our Corten steel cube planters come in a raw steel finish, but we also offer pre-weathered options if you want your planter to have that unique orange and brown patina right away. If not, don’t worry; the weathering process will begin from the first rainfall.
Factors such as local climate conditions and proximity to coastlines can influence how quickly the lovely natural tines develop, but this usually happens over a period of six to nine months.
Where can I place my bespoke cube planter?
All our stunning planters radiate a modern, floating effect thanks to their hidden 15 mm feet. Not only does this add to the overall aesthetics of your garden, but it also makes for better drainage beneath the planter – keeping it perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Go one step further and create raised flower beds with our designs or enhance mobility, using adjustable-height legs or castors for an effortless spatial arrangement for an additional cost.
You can even place your bespoke cube planter indoors and in domestic and commercial settings. However, as a standard, the planters come with drainage holes – Contact us for a watertight spec for indoor use, and this is an additional cost.
Maintenance and other things to note
Corten steel cube planters don’t require any maintenance. All our planters are durable, so you shouldn’t have to worry about longevity at all. Unlike wooden or plastic alternatives, which may require regular repairs and painting, all you need to do is fill, plant and enjoy!
During the natural weathering process, your Corten steel planter may produce a ‘run off’ that could cause staining on the surface below. This risk is particularly high during the first three to six months of the weathering process.
Our Corten steel planters can be delivered at various stages of the weathering process, from new steel to full patina. If you’re eager to receive your bespoke cube planter pre-weathered, you can order them in that state.
All planter dimensions are in millimetres and are provided in length x width x height format. For instance, a planter option listed as 2000 x 1000 x 600 measures 2000 mm in length, 1000 mm in width and 600 mm in height.
Please note that, once production has begun, we may not be able to accommodate requests or changes.
Once received, please unpack the bespoke cube planter straight away. Planters left palletised and packaged may develop an uneven patina if it is exposed to moisture or rain.
