Corrosion-Resistant Corten Steel

Why Should You Upgrade to Corten Steel?

Superior Durability and Longevity

Unlike other types of steel or metals, Corten steel develops a protective rust layer or patina that protects the metal and prevents further corrosion, meaning it will withstand harsh weather conditions and last significantly longer.

Minimal Maintenance

Once the protective patina layer has developed on your Corten steel product, it needs virtually no maintenance! Other types of steel may need treating or repainting, but Corten steel continues to look stunning without effort!

Enhanced Aesthetic Appeal

Corten steel’s rich, earthy patina creates a unique, natural look that evolves beautifully over time. Blending seamlessly with any garden or setting, this visually striking element can’t be matched by other steels.

How do we make a Corten Steel Cube Raised Bed?

We laser cut the steel to ensure our design is precisely and consistently replicated for each item. Once the laser cutting is complete, we use specialist Computer Aided machinery to apply folds to the sheet steel. We complete the fabrication by hand using only the best, qualified fabricators who take immense pride in their work.

Each Corten Steel Cube Raised Bed has a double folded return top lip feature. A lot of similar products on the market leave a steel edge, or a single fold. We have opted for a double fold for several reasons:

  1. Its a much higher quality, premium finish (It just looks so much better!)
  2. It gives the Cube unbelievable strength and rigidity, and
  3. Its safer for hands when planting.

The corners and connecting sides are fully seam welded and we take time and effort to smooth welds which provides amazing corner and edge detail. Once we?re finished you won?t know where the welds are! As they are handmade by our professional fabricators each Cube is ever so slightly unique adding to the charm of this product.

What is it made of?

Made from 100% genuine, certified Corten Steel. Also known as Weathering Steel or COR-TEN steel. COR refers to the metal’s property of corrosion resistance. TEN denotes the metal’s tensile strength.

We make our Corten Steel Cube Raised Bed from structural grade, 2mm thick steel as standard. Corten Steel develops a unique and distinct patina when exposed to the elements. The Patina is beautiful and protective. The oxidised patina forms a barrier to slow down the oxidisation process which elongates the life of the material. The Patina develops the most beautiful warm, autumnal shades of orange, red, and brown over time. The beauty of this material is that the shades and colours of the patina depend on the climate and weather where the product is situated. So, you’re guaranteed to have a totally unique planter in your very own garden!

Corten steel is a premium metal used widely in landscaping and construction. Some of the most notable Corten Structures that use Corten are:

  1. Crescent Office Building by Sanjay Puri Architects
  2. The Angel of the North by Anthony Gormley
  3. John Deere World Headquarters by Eero Saarinen, Kevin Roche
  4. Leeds Broadcasting Tower by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios

Any custom sizes can be produced in up to 6mm steel depending on the intended use. We offer all our planters in Rustic Patina Steel & Corten Steel. Check out our blog post which compares Mild Steel and Cor-Ten Steel. Don’t just take our word for it check out what one of the UK's largest steel suppliers says about the advantages of Corten Steel and comparison vs. Mild Steel.

Larger sized planters or orders with larger quantities will arrive via a pallet courier, and smaller sized orders will arrive via one of our parcel courier partners. All deliveries are fully tracked. See Delivery Policy for more info.

How long will it take for my Corten Steel Cube Raised Bed to weather?

Corten Steel Cubes are available in a raw steel finish as standard. If you order your planter pre-weathered, we’ve done the hard work for you. If not, no problem, the finish will start to develop a beautifully unique orange and brown patina in a matter of days and will continue to develop over a period 6 to 9 months. Speed of weathering process depending on factors such as Weather, Climate, and Proximity the coast/ sea spray etc.

How do i maintain it?

You don’t have to! Honest! Unlike wooden or plastic alternatives no maintenance is required at all! All you need to do is fill, plant and enjoy!

Other things to note

Due to the natural weathering process the ’run off ’ from rainwater and watering may stain the surface the planter is placed upon. This a higher risk during the 1st 3 to 6 months of the weathering process.

Planters can be delivered in various stages of the weathering process from new steel to full patina. You can order your planters pre-weathered if you want to guarantee they arrive pre-weathered and you're as impatient as we are!

All dimensions are in millimetres and in Length x Width x Height format. For example, the planter option 2000 x 500 x 600 is 2000mm long, 500mm Wide and 600mm high.

Once production is started; we may not be able to accommodate requests or amends.
