Superior Durability and Longevity
Unlike other types of steel or metals, Corten steel develops a protective rust layer or patina that protects the metal and prevents further corrosion, meaning it will withstand harsh weather conditions and last significantly longer.
Minimal Maintenance
Once the protective patina layer has developed on your Corten steel product, it needs virtually no maintenance! Other types of steel may need treating or repainting, but Corten steel continues to look stunning without effort!
Enhanced Aesthetic Appeal
Corten steel’s rich, earthy patina creates a unique, natural look that evolves beautifully over time. Blending seamlessly with any garden or setting, this visually striking element can’t be matched by other steels.

How do we make a Powdercoated Cube Planter Pot?Every metal cube planter starts life as a flat sheet of steel. We laser-cut it first, so the design is precise and consistent across every unit we make. Once cutting is complete, specialist machinery folds the sheet steel, and our fabricators finish the build by hand. These are skilled, qualified tradespeople who take real pride in the joins and edges other manufacturers rush past.
After fabrication, we degrease the surface to strip away any impurities, then apply a polyester powder coat using an electric static charge. The planter is baked in an oven so the colour binds permanently to the steel. Everything happens here in the UK. None of our products or processes are outsourced overseas.
Each cube planter has a double-folded return top lip, rather than the raw edge or single fold you'll often find on cheaper alternatives. We chose a double fold for three reasons:
- It's a noticeably higher quality, premium finish
- It gives the planter far greater strength and rigidity
- It's safer to handle when you're planting up
Every corner is fully seam welded, and we take the time to smooth each weld by hand for a clean, professional edge. Once finished, you won't be able to spot where the welds are. Because each piece is handmade, every powder-coated planter carries a very slight uniqueness that only adds to its charm.
What Are Powdercoated Steel Planters Made Of?
Our powder-coatedd planters are made from electro-zinc-plated mild steel, using 2mm thick steel as standard. Custom sizes can be produced in steel up to 6mm thick, depending on how the planter will be used. We also offer the full Arden Trough and Cube range in Corten and Rustic Patina materials, if you'd prefer a different finish.
Choosing the Right Size Cube Planter
We offer this cube planter in sizes ranging from a compact 300 x 300 x 300mm right up to a substantial 2000 x 2000 x 800mm, so there's a genuine range to choose from whether you're planting a single herb pot or specifying multiple units for a commercial scheme. A few pointers to help you choose:
- Balconies, patios and entrances: Smaller cubes (300mm to 600mm) work well where floor space is limited, and look good arranged in pairs or clusters.
- Garden borders and courtyards: Mid-range sizes (700mm to 1000mm) give plants and small shrubs plenty of root room while still being easy to position by hand or with light lifting equipment.
- Commercial landscaping and larger trees: The 1200mm to 2000mm range provides the depth needed for small trees and larger specimen planting, and suits car parks, plazas and hotel grounds where the planter needs to hold its own visually.
Can't see the exact size you need? Our engineers regularly produce bespoke sizes to fit awkward spaces or larger design briefs, so take a look at our Bespoke Products page or get in touch to discuss your requirements.
All dimensions are listed in millimetres, in Length x Width x Height format. For example, 1000 x 1000 x 600 means 1000mm long, 1000mm wide and 600mm high
Where Can a Cube Planter Be Used?
- Gardens: A cube planter adds structure to borders, patios or lawns, whether used alone as a feature piece or grouped for impact.
- Patios & Decking: The flat base and hidden feet make it easy to position on hard landscaping without damaging the surface underneath.
- Commercial Landscapes: Larger sizes bring instant structure and greenery to retail parks, business parks and public realm schemes.
- Office Entrances: A row of matching planters either side of an entrance creates a smart, welcoming first impression for visitors and staff.
- Hotels & Restaurants: Powder-coated finishes in bold or brand-matched colours help hospitality venues create a memorable outdoor space for guests.
- Rooftop Gardens: Lightweight relative to stone or concrete alternatives, and available bottomless, making them a practical option for rooftop planting schemes.
How Do I Maintain It?
Honestly, there's very little to do. Unlike wooden or plastic planters, no ongoing maintenance is required at all, so this cube planter really does take care of itself once it's in place.
How will my order arrive?
We have a trusted network of nationwide pallet and parcel couriers. Larger-sized planters or orders with larger quantities will arrive via a pallet courier, and smaller-sized orders will arrive via one of our parcel courier partners. All deliveries are fully tracked. See Delivery Policy for more info.
Lead time is estimated at 3 to 4 weeks from order - please enquire if you require a shorter lead time.
Does the planter just sit on the ground?
No, all our Metal Planters come with fixed 15mm feet that are hidden underneath the planter. The feet keep the planter ever so slightly off the ground to give the effect that it is floating. Practically this also helps with drainage. We can make any of our planters bottomless so they can be installed directly on soil as a raised flower bed. We can also add adjustable height legs or castors to the bottom of your planter.
Can a Powdercoated Cube Planter Pot be used Indoors as well?
Yes! They are suitable for domestic, commercial, indoor, and outdoor use. The planters come with drainage holes as standard, if using indoors you may want to request we make the planter to a watertight specification. Please speak to one of our experts for some more advice on this before ordering planters indoors.
How do I maintain it?
You don’t have to! Honest! Unlike wooden or plastic alternatives no maintenance is required at all! All you need to do is fill, plant, and enjoy!
Other things to note
All dimensions are in millimeters and in Length x Width x Height format. For example, 1000 x 1000 x 600 is 1000mm long, 1000mm Wide, and 600mm high.
Once production is started, we may not be able to accommodate requests or amends.
Whilst powder coating is an extremely durable and weather-resistant surface, it can be damaged by sharp objects. If the powder coating layer is penetrated as far as the raw steel by a deep scratch or scrape, water may get behind the powder coating and cause it to rust and flake away over time.
A deep scuff or a scratch on an otherwise pristine, sleek surface can look unsightly, and unlike ‘wet’ paints, powder coating cannot be repaired in situ.
Care should be taken when handling the planters in installation and during use so as to not damage the protective powder-coated finish. Any defects in the planters and powder coating should be notified within 24 hours from delivery.

FAQs
Are powder-coated cube planters rust-proof?
The powder coating is highly weather-resistant and protects the steel underneath from moisture, but it isn’t indestructible. A deep scratch through to bare steel can leave that spot vulnerable to rust, so it’s worth handling and installing your planter with a bit of care. See “Other Things to Note” above for the full detail.
Will the colour fade?
Our powder coating is formulated to resist UV damage, so colours hold up well against everyday sun and weather exposure compared with standard wet paint finishes.
Can I customise the planter colour?
Yes. Choose from 147 RAL colours, so you can match your planter to existing branding, render, decking or planting schemes.
What plants are best for cube planters?
It depends on the size you choose. Smaller cubes suit herbs, seasonal bedding and compact shrubs, while our larger sizes have enough depth and volume for ornamental grasses, hedging plants and even small trees.
Can cube planters hold small trees?
Yes, provided you choose a size with enough depth for the rootball. Our larger cube planters are well suited to small trees and larger specimen planting, so speak to our team if you’d like help matching a size to a specific tree or shrub.
Are drainage holes included?
Yes, drainage holes come as standard on every cube planter, paired with 15mm feet that lift the base slightly off the ground to help water drain away freely.
Are these suitable for commercial projects?
This outdoor cube planter is a popular choice for hotels, offices, retail landscaping and public realm projects, and we offer trade discounts for commercial orders. Visit our Trade Portal or contact our sales team for more details.
What size cube planter should I choose?
It depends on the space and the planting you have in mind, from a compact balcony pot right through to a commercial landscaping scheme. See our size guidance above for a full breakdown, or get in touch and we’ll help you choose.
