Superior Durability and Longevity
Unlike other types of steel or metals, Corten steel develops a protective rust layer or patina that protects the metal and prevents further corrosion, meaning it will withstand harsh weather conditions and last significantly longer.
Minimal Maintenance
Once the protective patina layer has developed on your Corten steel product, it needs virtually no maintenance! Other types of steel may need treating or repainting, but Corten steel continues to look stunning without effort!
Enhanced Aesthetic Appeal
Corten steel’s rich, earthy patina creates a unique, natural look that evolves beautifully over time. Blending seamlessly with any garden or setting, this visually striking element can’t be matched by other steels.

How are your Corten steel cube planters made?
At Weather It, we make all our Corten steel planters and gardening products at our on-site facility in the UK. We guarantee both precision and consistency in our designs:
- Advanced laser-cutting techniques
- Folds applied through computer-aided machinery
- Manufacturing process completed by skilled fabricators
Cube planters feature a double-folded return and offer:
- Higher quality
- Premium finish
- Safety to handle during planting
We take care to fully seam-weld the corners and connecting sides of our cube planters, in addition to smoothing out the welds, thus resulting in amazing corner and edge details. The welds are so well done that they are practically invisible once we are finished.
Because each cube manufactured by our professional fabricators is made by hand, each product is unique, adding to its charm.
What are your Corten steel cube planters made of?
We offer Corten steel cube planters made from certified, genuine Corten steel, also known as weathering steel or COR-TEN steel. The metal’s corrosion-resistant property is denoted by “COR”, while its tensile strength is indicated by “TEN”. We use 2 mm-thick, structural-grade steel as standard to produce our planters.
Unique features of Corten steel when exposed to the elements:
- Develops an attractive patina
- Protects material from oxidation
- Forms a unique autumnal colour pattern
We offer custom sizes of up to 6 mm in thickness, depending on the intended use – and all of our planters are available in Rustic Patina Steel and Corten Steel.
Corten steel is a premium metal used widely in landscaping and construction. Some of the most notable structures that use Corten are:
- The Angel of the North by Anthony Gormley
- John Deere World Headquarters by Eero Saarinen, Kevin Roche
- Leeds Broadcasting Tower by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios
How will my order arrive?
We work with a reliable network of pallet and parcel couriers throughout the country. Depending on the size of your order, larger quantities or larger-sized planters will be delivered via pallet courier, while smaller orders will be delivered through our parcel courier partners. We provide full tracking information for all deliveries, and you can find additional information about our delivery policy on our website.
Currently, our lead time is approximately 3 to 4 weeks, but if you require a shorter lead time, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
How long will it take for my Corten steel cube planter pot to weather?
Our Corten steel cubes come in a raw steel finish, but we also offer pre-weathered options if you want your planter to have that unique orange and brown patina right away. If not, don’t worry; the weathering process will begin from the first rainfall.
Factors such as local climate conditions and proximity to coastlines can influence how quickly the lovely natural tones develop, but this usually happens over six to nine months.
Do the planters just sit on the ground?
All our stunning planters radiate a modern, floating effect thanks to their hidden 15 mm feet. Not only does this add to the overall aesthetics of your garden, but it also makes for better drainage beneath the planter – keeping it perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Go one step further and create raised flower beds with our designs or enhance mobility, using adjustable-height legs or castors for an effortless spatial arrangement for an additional cost.
Can the square Corten steel planter be used indoors as well?
Yes, they can be used indoors, outdoors, and in domestic and commercial settings. However, as a standard, the planters come with drainage holes – Contact us for a watertight specification for indoor use as this is an additional cost.
How do I maintain the pots?
All our planters are durable, so you shouldn’t have to worry about longevity at all. In fact, our Corten steel cube planter doesn’t require any maintenance. Unlike wooden or plastic alternatives, which may require regular repairs and painting, all you need to do is fill, plant, and enjoy!
Additional features of Corten steel cubes:
- During the natural weathering process, your Corten steel planter may produce ‘runoff’ that could cause staining on the surface below. This risk is particularly high during the first three to six months of the weathering process.
- Our Corten steel planters can be delivered at various stages of the weathering process, from new steel to full patina. If you’re eager to receive your planters pre-weathered, you can order them in that state.
- All planter dimensions are in millimetres and are provided in length x width x height format. For instance, a planter option listed as 2000 x 1000 x 600 measures 2000 mm in length, 1000 mm in width and 600 mm in height.
- Please note that, once production has begun, we may not be able to accommodate requests or changes.
- Once received, please unpack the planters straight away. Planters left palletised and packaged may develop an uneven patina if it is exposed to moisture or rain.
