New Beginnings

They say to do something every day that scares you – well, look at me: here I am starting up a blog! I don’t know what I’m doing or where I’m going, but I’m up for the ride.

When we started up Weather It 2 years ago I had that same feeling – giddy excitement mixed with a dollop of terror – but it’s all turned out OK so I figured bring on the blog! How difficult can it be?

This have-a-go spirit is something I apply to my gardening, but that has more mixed results – things don’t always go to plan. I have an idea of how I’d like the garden to look, but knowing where to start is a different matter. I’ll often put things off, or plant in a panic or, worse, do nothing at all.

Gardening, it seems, can be a bit scary too for a complete beginner.

But I have enthusiasm on my side and a willingness to learn from my mistakes (just as well really), so I thought if I started up a blog on all things gardening it would help with both the inspiration and the practicalities…and might even help a few floundering readers along the way.

And spring has got to be the best time to start, right? Everything around us is, er, springing in to life: buds, birds, bees all busily shaking off the winter. We too can actually get on with all the stuff that’s been on hold for two years, and best of it’s really sunny and the equinox is this Sunday – the official start of Spring!

I’m raring to go.

It turns out, though, that staring at a blank screen and filling it with meaningful words is a bit tricky after all, so I’ve decided to enlist some expert help over the coming weeks in the form of garden designer Amanda Grimes.

Amanda and I ‘met’ when she ordered three of our planters for her Get Started garden at Hampton Court last year (you can see the pics on our product page). The ‘Punk Rockery’ garden went down a storm and was full of great ideas for novice gardeners. So I thought she was a perfect fit.

Watch this space as they say, and I hope you’ll find our musings entertaining and useful.

Cheers, Dan
