As a family business, we do everything we can to reduce our carbon footprint. We understand that there’s no magic wand when it comes to sustainability, so we keep it in mind when making key business decisions to ensure we never lose sight of what is important to us. So, what have we done?
100% Renewable Energy
We only consume certified, 100% renewable energy at our premises as we believe this is worth the investment as it is core to our values.
LED Lighting
We have replaced our halogen lighting with LED lights to reduce our carbon footprint.
Solar Panels
We generate our own power through an array of solar panels on the roof of our factory, reducing our energy demand on the grid and our carbon footprint.
Efficient Cutting
We have invested in a specialist air compressor to laser cut our steel using compressed air instead of high-pressure fossil fuels.
Electric Forklifts
We have invested in electric forklifts to prevent air pollution in the working environment and prevent the use of fossil fuels.
Recycling
All offcuts are smelted down into new raw steel and our products are all 100% recyclable. We aim to keep waste material under 5% from all processes.
Delivery Planning
Where possible we plan deliveries to consolidate consignments, helping our supply chain partners reduce fuel waste as well.
Grade A Corten Steel
Also known as weathering steel, which is where our name comes from, Corten steel is a type of alloy designed to form a stable, rust-like patina when exposed to outdoor weathering. This provides a protective layer to prevent further corrosion and enhance its durability, making it a popular material for outdoor features and structures. Corten steel is available in two grades: A and B. Grade A contains more phosphorous, which accelerates the formation of the protective rust layer, making it ideal for applications where the visual appeal is important. Grade B is designed for heavier-duty structural applications and, as it has less phosphorous, it is slightly less aesthetically focused.
At WEATHER IT, we always use grade A Corten steel. This means that our products then give our clients the desired visual appeal and fast-developing patina of rich colours they’re looking for in their project.
